00:19for London crashed in the Meghani Nagar area just moments after takeoff it was one of the
00:27darkest incidents in aviation history claiming 260 lives and leaving not only Gujarat but the
00:36entire nation shaken today marks one year since that tragedy what is the situation now one year
00:46later how far has the investigation progressed what compensation and support have the victims
00:54families received and have we learned any lessons from this disaster let us look back on the journey
01:03of the past year on 12th June 2025 air India flight AI 171 departed from Ahmedabad for London catwick the
01:14Boeing 787-8 dreamliner was carrying 242 passengers and crew members at approximately 1 39 p.m. the
01:26aircraft took off from Sardar Wallabhai Patel International Airport there were a total of 242
01:34people on board the aircraft according to air India's official figures the aircraft was carrying 242 people
01:45including passengers and crew members among them were 169 Indian nationals 53 British nationals 7 Portuguese
01:56nationals and one Canadian national shortly after takeoff the aircraft used a mayday call however communication
02:07with air traffic control was lost soon afterward within moments the plane crashed in the Meghani Nagar area
02:16adjacent to the airport the aircraft struck the hostel and mess building of BJ Medical College the
02:27powerful explosion and resulting fire engulfed the area in thick smoke the crash claimed the lives of 241
02:37people on board and 19 people on the ground only one passenger Vishwas survived the accident
02:47incident as soon as information about the incident was received six teams of the National Disaster Response Force
02:55NDRF were immediately dispatched to the crash site three teams were sent from Gandhinagar and three from Vadodara
03:05in addition personnel from the fire brigade police state disaster response force SDRF health department civil
03:15hospital army and local administration worked continuously on rescue and relief operations
03:24green corridors were created to ensure that the injured could be transported to hospitals as quickly as possible
03:33since many of the bodies were severely burned DNA testing was used for identification
03:41teams from the Gujarat forensic science laboratory and the civic hospital identified 231 victims
03:50through DNA matching within a week of the accident and the bodies of 210 victims were handed over to their
03:58families
04:01following the tragedy both the central and state governments acted swiftly
04:08orders were issued for a high-level investigation
04:11compensation and all necessary assistance for the affected families were announced
04:17Air India also established helplines and assistance centers from the very beginning
04:24interim compensation from the victims families were announced and the process for final compensation was
04:33subsequently initiated according to the airline financial assistance has been provided to most of the
04:41affected families however some families are still awaiting complete justice and answers a preliminary report
04:50released one month after the crash indicated that the aircraft's engine had lost fuel supply
04:57however the exact cause of the accident has still not been officially determined
05:04even after one year the final investigation report remains pending it is understood that the report
05:12has been delayed because investigations into the engines and other technical aspects are still ongoing
05:19a year has passed but the wounds remain fresh family members continue to remember their loved ones and many are
05:27still searching for answers the sole survivor of the crash has also called for truth and transparency
