00:00:23The words of Nehemiah the son of Hecaliah,
00:00:27And it came to pass in the month Kisliu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
00:00:33that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah.
00:00:38And I asked them, concerning the Jews that had escaped,
00:00:41which were left of the captivity and concerning Jerusalem.
00:00:44And they said unto me,
00:00:46The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach.
00:00:51The wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
00:00:58And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept,
00:01:02and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven, and said,
00:01:08I beseech thee, O Lord, God of heaven, the great and terrible God,
00:01:14that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments.
00:01:20Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open,

00:02:57And it came to pass in the month of Nisan,
00:02:59in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king,
00:03:02that wine was before him,
00:03:03and I took up the wine,
00:03:05and gave it unto the king.
00:03:06Now I had not been before time,
00:03:09sat in his presence.
00:03:10Wherefore the king said unto me,
00:03:12Why is thy countenance sad,
00:03:14seeing thou art not sick?
00:03:16This is nothing else but sorrow of heart.
00:03:19Then I was very sore afraid,
00:03:21and said unto the king,
00:03:23Let the king live for ever.
00:03:25Why should not my countenance be sad,
00:03:27when this city,
00:03:28the place of my father's sepulchres,

00:04:11Let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river,
00:04:14that they may convey me over till I come into Judah,
00:04:17and a letter unto Asaph,
00:04:19the keeper of the king's forest,
00:04:20that he may give me timber,
00:04:22to make beams for the gates of the palace,
00:04:24which appertained to the house,
00:04:26and for the wall of the city,
00:04:28and for the house that I shall enter into.
00:04:30And the king granted me,
00:04:32according to the good hand of my God upon me.
00:04:35Then I came to the governors beyond the river,
00:04:38and gave them the king's letters.
00:04:41Now the king had sent captains of the army,
00:04:43and horsemen with me.
00:04:46When Samballot the Horonite,
00:04:48and Tavia the servant the Ammonite,
00:04:51heard of it,
00:04:52agreed them exceedingly
00:04:53that there was come a man
00:04:54to seek the welfare of the children of Israel,
00:04:57So I came to Jerusalem,
00:04:59and was there three days.
00:05:01And I arose in the night,
00:05:03I and some few men with me,
00:05:05neither told I any man
00:05:07what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem,
00:05:10neither was there any beast with me,
00:05:12save the beast that I rode upon.
00:05:15And I went out by night,
00:05:17by the gate of the valley,
00:05:19even before the dragon well,
00:05:20and to the dung port,
00:05:22and viewed the walls of Jerusalem,
00:05:24which were broken down,
00:05:26and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.

00:05:34but there was no place for the beast
00:05:36that was under me to pass.
00:05:38Then went I up in the night by the brook,

00:05:44and entered by the gate of the valley,

00:05:47And the rulers knew not
00:05:49whether I went or what I did,
00:05:51neither had I as yet
00:05:52told it to the Jews,

00:05:56nor to the nobles,
00:05:57nor to the rulers,
00:05:59nor to the rest that did the work.
00:06:02Then said I unto them,
00:06:04Ye see the distress that we are in,
00:06:06how Jerusalem lieth waste,
00:06:09and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
00:06:12Come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem,
00:06:15that we be no more reproach.
00:06:18Then I told them of the hand of my God
00:06:20which was good upon me,

00:07:18rose up with his brethren the priests,
00:07:21and they builded the sheep gate.
00:07:23They sanctified it,
00:07:24and set up the doors of it.
00:07:26Even unto the tower of Mea
00:07:27they sanctified it,
00:07:29unto the tower of Hananiel.
00:07:31And next unto him
00:07:32builded the men of Jericho,
00:07:34and next to them
00:07:35builded Zechariah the son of Emri.
00:07:38But the fish gate
00:07:39did the sons of Hassaneah build,
00:07:41who also laid the beams thereof,

00:09:58and the bars thereof.
00:09:59But the gate of the fountain
00:10:02repaired Shalom the son of Caholzi,
00:10:05the ruler of part of Mizpah.
00:10:07He built it,
00:10:08and covered it,
00:10:09and set up the doors thereof,
00:10:11the locks thereof,
00:10:12and the bars thereof,
00:10:14and the wall of the pool of Siloah
00:10:16by the king's garden,
00:10:17and unto the stairs that go down
00:10:19from the city of David.
00:10:21After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Asbuk,
00:10:25the ruler of the half part of Beth-Zur,
00:10:27unto the place over against
00:10:29the sepulchres of David,
00:10:31and to the pool that was made,
00:10:33and unto the house of the mighty.
00:10:35After him repaired the Levites,
00:10:38Rehum the son of Bani.
00:10:40Next unto him repaired Hashabiah,
00:10:43the ruler of the half part of Keilah,
00:10:45in his part.
00:10:46After him repaired their brethren,
00:10:49Bevei the son of Hanadad,
00:10:51the ruler of the half part of Keilah.

00:12:18over against the great tower that lieth out,
00:12:21even unto the wall of Ophel.
00:12:23From above the horse gate,
00:12:25repaired the priests,
00:12:27everyone over against his house.

00:12:31repaired Zadok,
00:12:32the son of Emer,
00:12:33over against his house.
00:12:35After him repaired also,
00:12:36Shemaiah,
00:12:37the son of Shekaniah,
00:12:38the keeper of the east gate.

00:12:43the son of Shalamiah,

00:13:26Nehemiah Chapter 4
00:13:28But it came to pass,
00:13:30that when Zambalat heard,
00:13:31that we builded the wall,
00:13:33he was wroth,
00:13:34and took great indignation,
00:13:36and mocked the Jews.
00:13:39And he spake before his brethren
00:13:41and the army of Samaria,
00:13:43and said,
00:13:44What do these feeble Jews?
00:13:47Will they fortify themselves?
00:13:49Will they sacrifice?
00:13:51Will they make an end in a day?
00:13:54Will they revive the stones
00:13:56out of the heaves of the rubbish
00:13:57which are burned?
00:13:59Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him,
00:14:02and he said,
00:14:03Even that which they filled,
00:14:05if a fox go up,
00:14:06he shall even break down
00:14:08their stone wall.
00:14:10Hear,
00:14:11O our God,
00:14:12for we are despised,
00:14:14and turn their reproach
00:14:15upon their own head,
00:14:17and give them for a prey
00:14:18in the land of captivity,
00:14:20and cover not their iniquity,
00:14:22and let not their sin
00:14:23be blotted out from before thee,
00:14:25for they have provoked thee
00:14:26to anger before the builders.
00:14:29So built we the wall,
00:14:31and all the wall
00:14:32was joined together
00:14:33unto the half thereof,
00:14:35for the people
00:14:36had a mind to work.
00:14:39But it came to pass
00:14:41that when Sambalat and Tobiah
00:14:43and the Arabians
00:14:44and the Ammonites
00:14:45and the Ashtodites
00:14:47heard that the walls
00:14:48of Jerusalem were made up,
00:14:50and that the breaches
00:14:51began to be stopped,
00:14:52then they were very wroth,
00:14:54and conspired
00:14:55all of them together
00:14:56to come and to fight
00:14:57against Jerusalem
00:14:58and to hinder it.
00:15:00Nevertheless,
00:15:01we made our prayer
00:15:02unto our God
00:15:04and set a watch
00:15:05against them
00:15:05day and night
00:15:06because of them.
00:15:08And Judah said,
00:15:10The strength of the bearers
00:15:11of burdens
00:15:12is decayed,
00:15:13and there is much rubbish,
00:15:15so that we are not able
00:15:16to build the wall.
00:15:18And our adversaries said,
00:15:20They shall not know,
00:15:21neither see,
00:15:22till we come in the midst
00:15:24among them
00:15:24and slay them
00:15:25and cause the work
00:15:26to cease.
00:15:27And it came to pass
00:15:29that when the Jews
00:15:30which drove by them
00:15:31came,
00:15:32they said unto us
00:15:33ten times,
00:15:34From all places
00:15:35whence ye shall return
00:15:36unto us,
00:15:37they will be upon you.
00:15:39Therefore said I
00:15:40in the lower places
00:15:42behind the wall
00:15:43and on the higher places,
00:15:45I even sent the people
00:15:46out to their families
00:15:47with their swords,
00:15:48their spears,
00:15:49and their bows.
00:15:50And I looked
00:15:51and rose up
00:15:52and said unto the nobles
00:15:54and to the rulers
00:15:55and to the rest

00:15:57Be not ye afraid of them.
00:15:58Remember the Lord
00:16:00which is great

00:16:01and fight for your brethren,
00:16:03your sons,
00:16:04and your daughters,
00:16:05your wives,

00:16:07And it came to pass
00:16:09when our enemies heard
00:16:10that it was known unto us,
00:16:11and God had brought
00:16:12their counsel to naught,
00:16:13that we returned
00:16:14all of us to the wall,
00:16:16every one unto his work.
00:16:18And it came to pass
00:16:20from that time forth
00:16:21that the half of my servants
00:16:22brought in the work,
00:16:23and the other half of them
00:16:25held both the spears,
00:16:26the shields,
00:16:27and the bows,
00:16:28and the haverjins,
00:16:30and the rulers were behind
00:16:31all the house of Judah.
00:16:33They which built it on the wall,
00:16:36and they that bare burdens
00:16:37with those that laid it,
00:16:39every one with one of his hands

00:17:27with his servant
00:17:28lodge within Jerusalem,

00:17:31they may be a guard to us,
00:17:33and to labor on the day.

00:18:01And there was a great cry
00:18:02of the people
00:18:03and of their wives
00:18:04against their brethren
00:18:06the Jews.
00:18:07For there were that said,
00:18:09We our sons
00:18:10and our daughters
00:18:10are many,
00:18:11therefore we take up
00:18:12corn for them,
00:18:13that we may eat
00:18:14and live.
00:18:15Some also there were
00:18:17that said,
00:18:17We have mortgaged
00:18:18our lands,
00:18:20vineyards,
00:18:20and houses,
00:18:21that we might buy corn
00:18:23because of the dearth.
00:18:24There were also
00:18:25that said,
00:18:26We have borrowed money
00:18:28for the king's tribute
00:18:29and that upon
00:18:30our lands and vineyards.
00:18:32Yet now our flesh
00:18:33is as the flesh
00:18:34of our brethren,
00:18:35our children
00:18:35as their children,
00:18:37and lo,
00:18:38we bring into bondage
00:18:39our sons and our daughters
00:18:40to be servants,
00:18:41and some of our daughters
00:18:43are brought into bondage already,
00:18:45neither is it in our power
00:18:46to redeem them,
00:18:47for other men
00:18:48have our lands
00:18:49and vineyards.
00:18:50And I was very angry
00:18:52when I heard their cry
00:18:53in these words.
00:18:55Then I consulted
00:18:56with myself
00:18:57and I rebuked
00:18:57the nobles
00:18:58and the rulers
00:18:59and said unto them,
00:19:00Ye exact usury,
00:19:02every one of his brother.
00:19:04And I set a great assembly
00:19:05against them.
00:19:07And I said unto them,
00:19:09We after our ability
00:19:10have redeemed
00:19:11our brethren the Jews,
00:19:13which were sold
00:19:13unto the heathen.
00:19:15And will ye even
00:19:16sell your brethren,
00:19:17or shall they be sold
00:19:19unto us?
00:19:20Then held they their peace
00:19:21and found nothing
00:19:23to answer.
00:19:24Also I said,
00:19:25it is not good
00:19:27that ye do.
00:19:28Ought ye not to walk
00:19:29in the fear of our God
00:19:30because of the reproach
00:19:32of the heathen
00:19:32and our enemies?
00:19:34I likewise
00:19:35and my brethren
00:19:36and my servants
00:19:37might exact of them

00:19:39I pray you,
00:19:40let us leave off

00:20:11according to this promise.
00:20:14Also I shook my lap
00:20:16and said,
00:20:16So God shake out
00:20:18every man
00:20:19from his house
00:20:20and from his labor
00:20:21that performeth
00:20:22not this promise.

00:20:25be he shaken out
00:20:26and emptied.
00:20:27And all the congregation

00:20:38that I was appointed

00:23:14to preach of thee

00:32:50priesthood. And the Tarshathah said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things,
00:32:56till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim. The whole congregation together was forty and two
00:33:03thousand, three hundred and three score, beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom
00:33:09there were seven thousand, three hundred thirty and seven. And they had two hundred forty and five

00:34:30Nehemiah chapter 8. And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street
00:34:37that was before the water gate. And they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law

00:34:43which the Lord had commanded to Israel. And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation
00:34:49both of men and women, and all that can hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh
00:34:54month. And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate, from the morning until
00:35:00midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand. And the heirs of all the people
00:35:07were attentive unto the book of the law. And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they
00:35:13had made for the purpose. And beside him stood Metathiah, and Shema, and Anniah, and Uriah, and

00:35:54And they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
00:36:01Also, Jeshua, and Bani, and Cherubiah, Jamin, Aqab, Shabbathai, Hodijah, Measaiah, Kaleita,
00:36:11Azariah, Josabad, Hanan, Paliah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law, and the people
00:36:20stood in their place. So they read in the book, and the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense,
00:36:28and caused them to understand the reading. And Nehemiah, which is to Tershatha, and Ezra the
00:36:36priest, the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is
00:36:44holy unto the Lord your God. Mour not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words
00:36:51of the law. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send

00:36:59unto them for whom nothing is prepared. For this day is holy unto our Lord. Neither be ye sorry,
00:37:06for the joy of the Lord is your strength. So the Levites stilled all the people, saying,
00:37:13Hold your peace, for the day is holy, neither be ye grieved. And all the people went their way to
00:37:21eat,
00:37:22and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words
00:37:28that were declared unto them. And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers
00:37:34of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words
00:37:41of the law. And they found written in the law which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children
00:37:47of Israel should dwell in booths, in the feast of the seventh month, and that they should publish and
00:37:53proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive

00:39:08The book of Nehemiah. Chapter 9. Now on the twenty and fourth day of this month, the children of
00:39:15Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackcloths, and earth upon them. And the seed of
00:39:21Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities
00:39:27of their fathers. And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the

00:39:33God, one-fourth part of the day, and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the Lord their

00:40:02Pethahiah said, Stand up and bless the Lord your God for ever and ever, and blessed be thy glorious
00:40:09name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. Thou, even thou, art Lord alone. Thou hast made
00:40:17heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas,
00:40:25and all that is therein, and thou beservest them all, and the host of heaven worshipeth thee.
00:40:32Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaudes,
00:40:40and gavest him the name of Abraham, and foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant
00:40:47with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites,
00:40:53and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words,
00:41:01for thou art righteous. And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the
00:41:08Red Sea, and showest signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of
00:41:16his land, for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as it
00:41:24is this day. And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the
00:41:31sea on the dry land, and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty
00:41:38waters. Moreover, thou lettest them in the day by a cloudy pillar, and in the night by a pillar of
00:41:45fire,
00:41:46to give them light in the way wherein they should go. Thou camest down also upon Mount Sinai, and spakest
00:41:54with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes, and commandments,
00:42:01and madeest known unto them thy holy Sabbath, and commandest them precepts, statutes, and laws,
00:42:10by the hand of Moses thy servant. And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest
00:42:16forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedest them that they should go in
00:42:23to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them. But they and our fathers dealt proudly,
00:42:31and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments, and refused to obey, neither were
00:42:39mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them, but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion
00:42:46appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But thou art a god ready to pardon, gracious and
00:42:54merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not. Yea, when they had made
00:43:02them a molten calf, and said, This is thy god that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought
00:43:09great provocations. Yet thou, and thy manifold mercies, forsookest them not in the wilderness.
00:43:17The pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way, neither the pillar
00:43:23of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go. Thou gavest also thy good
00:43:30spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for
00:43:37their thirst. Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked
00:43:44nothing, their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not. Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms
00:43:53and nations, and didst divide them into corners. So they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land
00:44:01the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. Their children also multipliedst thou,
00:44:09as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hast promised to
00:44:16their fathers that they should go in to possess it. So the children went in and possessed the land,
00:44:23and thou subduest before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their
00:44:29hands, with their kings and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
00:44:35And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged,
00:44:44vineyards and olive yards, and fruit trees in abundance. So they did eat, and were filled,
00:44:51and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness. Nevertheless they were disobedient,
00:44:58and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified
00:45:06against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations. Therefore thou deliveredst them
00:45:14into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them. And in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto
00:45:21thee, thou heardest them from heaven. And according to thy manifold mercies, thou gavest them saviors,
00:45:29who saved them out of the hand of their enemies. But after they had rest, they did evil again before
00:45:36thee. Therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over
00:45:42them. Yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven. And many times didst
00:45:51thou deliver them according to thy mercies, and testifiest against them, that thou mightest bring
00:45:57them again unto thy law. Yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned
00:46:05against thy judgments, which if a man do he shall live in them. And withdrew the shoulder,
00:46:11and hardened their neck, and would not hear. Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiest
00:46:19against them by thy spirit in thy prophets. Yet would they not give ear. Therefore gavest thou them
00:46:26into the hand of the people of the lands. Nevertheless, for thy great mercy's sake, thou didst not utterly
00:46:35consume them, nor forsake them. For thou art a gracious and merciful God. Now therefore our God, the great, the
00:46:44mighty,
00:46:45and the terrible God, who keepest coveted in mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee that hath
00:46:51come
00:46:52upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers,
00:46:59and on all thy
00:46:59people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day. Howbeit thou art just, and all that is
00:47:07brought upon us. For thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly. Neither have our kings, our princes,
00:47:15our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearken unto thy commandments, and thy testimonies,
00:47:22wherewith thou didst testify against them. For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy
00:47:28great goodness that thou gavest to them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them,
00:47:34neither turned they from their wicked works. Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou
00:47:42gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof, and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it,
00:47:50and it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins.
00:47:57Also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great
00:48:05distress. And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it, and our princes,

00:48:27Nehemiah Chapter 10
00:48:29Now those that sealed were Nehemiah the Tershethah, the son of Hechaliah, and Zitkijah, Sariah,
00:48:37Azariah, Jeremiah, Asher, Amariah, Melchijah, Hattash, Shabaniah, Malach, Haram, Merimoth,
00:48:47Obadiah, Daniel, Gennethon, Baruch, Meshulam, Abijah, Majamin, Meaziah, Bilgei, Shemaiah,
00:48:58these were the priests.
00:48:59And the Levites, and the Levites, both Jeshua the son of Azaniah, Benuiah the sons of Hanadad,
00:49:06Kadmiel, and their brethren, Shabaniah, Hudijah, Kalita, Paliah, Hanan, Micah, Rehob,
00:49:14Hashabiah, Zacher, Shabaniah, Shabaniah, Hudijah, Benai, Benainu.
00:49:21The chief of the people, Perosh, Peth, Moab, Elam, Zathu, Benai, Benai, Asgad, Babeai,

00:50:14the porters, the singers, the Nephanims, and all they that had separated themselves from
00:50:19the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters,
00:50:24everyone having knowledge and having understanding, they claved to their brethren, their nobles,
00:50:30and entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God's law which was given by
00:50:35Moses, the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our
00:50:41Lord and his judgments and his statutes, and that we would not give our daughters unto the
00:50:47people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons, and if the people of the land
00:50:53bring wear or any victuals on the Sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them
00:50:58on the Sabbath or on the holy day, and that we would leave the seventh year and the exaction
00:51:04of every debt.
00:51:06Also we made ordinances for us to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for
00:51:13the service of the house of our God, for the showbread, and for the continual meat offering,
00:51:19and for the continual burnt offering of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts,
00:51:25and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the
00:51:30work of the house of our God. And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people
00:51:37for
00:51:37the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times
00:51:44appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the
00:51:49law,
00:51:50and to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year,
00:51:57unto the house of the Lord, also the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written
00:52:03in
00:52:03the law, and the firstlings of our herds, and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God,
00:52:09unto the priests that minister in the house of our God, and that we should bring the firstfruits of
00:52:15our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine, and of oil, unto the
00:52:22priests, to the chambers of the house of our God, and the tithes of our ground, unto the Levites,
00:52:28that the same Levites might have the tithes, in all the cities of our tillage. And the priest,
00:52:35the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes, and the Levites shall bring
00:52:41the tithe of the tithes, unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
00:52:47For the children of Israel, and the children of Levi, shall bring the offering of the corn,
00:52:53of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the
00:52:58priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers. And we will not forsake the house of our God.
00:53:17The book of Nehemiah, chapter 11. And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem. The rest of the
00:53:24people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts
00:53:30to dwell in other cities. And the people blessed all the men that willingly offered themselves to
00:53:36dwell at Jerusalem. Now these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem, but in the
00:53:42cities of Judah dwelt everyone in his possession in their cities, to wit Israel, the priests, and the
00:53:49Levites, and the Nephanims, and the children of Solomon's servants. And at Jerusalem dwelt certain
00:53:55of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah, Athiah the son

00:55:22Pasher, the son of Melkiah, and his brethren, chief of the fathers, two hundred forty and two. And
00:55:30Amashai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahasai, the son of Meshulamoth, the son of Emer, and their
00:55:37brethren, mighty men of valor, an hundred twenty and eight. And their overseer was Zavdiel, the son of
00:55:44one of the great men. Also of the Levites, Shamiah the son of Hashab, the son of Azraichim, the son

00:55:52Hashebiah, the son of Bani. And Shabbathai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, had the oversight
00:56:00of the outward business of the house of God. And Metaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zabdiah, the

00:56:07Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer. And Bacabukiah the second among his
00:56:14brethren, and Abda the son of Shemua, the son of Galau, the son of Jeduuthun. All the Levites in
00:56:21the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four. Moreover, the porters, Acab, Talman, and their
00:56:29brethren that kept the gates, were an hundred seventy and two. And the residue of Israel, of the
00:56:36priests and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance. But
00:56:43the Nephanims dwelt in Ophel, and Zihah and Gizpah were over the Nephanims.
00:56:51The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzziah the son of Bani, the son of Hashebiah,
00:56:58the son of Metaniah, the son of Micah. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the
00:57:04business of the house of God. For it was the king's commandment concerning them that a certain
00:57:09portion should be for the singers, due for every day. And Pethahiah the son of Meshezebel, of the
00:57:16children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people.
00:57:22And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kircheth Arba,
00:57:28and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jakabzeel,
00:57:36and in the villages thereof, and at Jeshua, and at Malada, and at Bethphelet, and at Hazashua,
00:57:43and at Beersheba, and in the villages thereof, and at Ziklag, and at Mekona, and in the villages
00:57:51thereof, and at Ereman, and at Zariah, and at Jarmuth, Zanoah, Adolam, and in their villages,
00:58:01at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Ezekah, and in the villages thereof.
00:58:06And they dwelt from Beersheba unto the valley of Hinnom.
00:58:11The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Ijah, and Bethel, and in
00:58:19their villages, and at Anathoth, Nob, and Ananiah, Hazor, Ramah, Gitaim, Hadad, Zoboam,
00:58:28Nabalit, Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.
00:58:33And of the Levites were divisions in Judah and in Benjamin.
00:58:49Nehemiah Chapter 12
00:58:52Now these are the priests and the Levites that went up with Zerubbabel the son of Shaltiel,
00:58:57and Jeshua, Zariah, Jeremiah, Ezra, Amariah, Malak, Hattash, Shekaniah, Reham, Merimoth,
00:59:07Iddo, Ginnotho, Abijah, Mayamin, Meadiah, Ryoga, Shemiah, and Joerib, Jediah, Salu, Amok,
00:59:17Hilkiah, Jediah.
00:59:19These were the chief of the priests and of their brethren in the days of Jeshua.
00:59:24Moreover the Levites, Jeshua, Benuai, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Metaniah, which was over
00:59:33the thanksgiving, he and his brethren.
00:59:35Also Bacbukiah and Unai their brethren were over against them in the watches.
00:59:41And Jeshua begat Joachim, Joachim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada, and Joiada
00:59:49begat Jonathan, and Jonathan begat Jaduah.
00:59:52And in the days of Joachim were priests the chief of the fathers, of Zariah, Moriah, of
00:59:59Jeremiah, Hananiah, of Ezra, Meshulam, of Amariah, Jehohanan, of Malakou, Jonathan, of

01:00:46The Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaduah were recorded chief
01:00:53of the fathers, also the priests, to the reign of Darius the Persian.
01:00:59The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the Chronicles,
01:01:04even until the days of Johanan, the son of Eliashib, and the chief of the Levites, Hashabiah,
01:01:10Sherebiah, and Jeshua, the son of Cadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise
01:01:16and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David, the man of God, ward over against
01:01:22word.
01:01:23Matiniah and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshulam, Talman, Akab, were porters keeping the word at the
01:01:31thresholds of the gates.
01:01:33These were in the days of Joachim, the son of Jeshua, the son of Josedek, and in the days
01:01:38of Nehemiah, the governor, and of Ezra, the priest, the scribe.
01:01:42And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, they sought the Levites out of all their places
01:01:48to bring them to Jerusalem to keep their dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings and
01:01:54with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.
01:01:59And the sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain country, round
01:02:05about Jerusalem, and from the villages of Natathathai, also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the
01:02:11fields of Geba, and Asmaveth.
01:02:14For the singers had built in villages round about Jerusalem, and the priests and the Levites
01:02:20purified themselves, and purified the people and the gates, and the wall.
01:02:26Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies
01:02:31of them that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the
01:02:36dung gate, and after them went Hoshiah, and half of the princes of Judah, and Ezariah,
01:02:42Ezra, and Meshulam, Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemiah, and Jeremiah, and certain of the
01:02:49priests' sons with trumpets, namely Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemiah, the
01:02:55son of Metaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zachar, the son of Asaph.
01:03:00And his brethren Shemiah, and Azariah, Mililai, Gililai, Maai, Nethaniel, and Judah, and Anani
01:03:10with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them.
01:03:15And at the fountain gate which was over against them, they went up by the stairs of the city
01:03:20of David, at the going up of the wall above the house of David, even unto the water gate
01:03:26eastward.
01:03:28And the other company of them that gave thanks went over against them, and I after them,
01:03:33and the half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces, even
01:03:38unto the broad wall, and from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above
01:03:43the fish gate, and the tower of Hananiel, and the tower of Meah, even unto the sheep gate,
01:03:49and they stood still in the prison gate.
01:03:52So stood the two companies of them that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the
01:03:57half of the rulers with me.
01:03:59And the priests, Eliakim, Measaiah, Maniaman, Micaiah, Eliuenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah
01:04:09with trumpets, and Measaiah and Shemiah, and Eleazar and Uzziah, and Jehohanan, and Melchijah,
01:04:16and Elam and Ezer.
01:04:18And the singers sang loud with Jezrehiah their overseer.
01:04:23Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice
01:04:30with great joy.
01:04:31The wives also and the children rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard, even
01:04:37afar off.
01:04:39And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings
01:04:44for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the
01:04:49cities, the portions of the law for the priests and Levites.
01:04:53For Judah rejoiced, for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
01:04:58And both the singers and the porters kept the word of their God, and the word of the
01:05:03purification according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.
01:05:08For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of
01:05:13praise and thanksgiving unto God.
01:05:16And all Israel, in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions
01:05:22of the singers and the porters every day his portion.
01:05:26And they sanctified holy things unto the Levites, and the Levites sanctified them unto the children
01:05:32of Aaron.
01:05:45Nehemiah Chapter 13
01:05:48On that day they read in the book of Moses and the audience of the people, and therein
01:05:53was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation
01:05:58of God for ever, because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired
01:06:04Balaam against them, that he should curse them.
01:06:07Howbeit, our God turned the curse into a blessing.
01:06:10Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the
01:06:15mixed multitude.
01:06:18And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of
01:06:23our God, was allied unto Tobiah, and he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime
01:06:29they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn,
01:06:35the new wine and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers,
01:06:40and the porters, and the offerings of the priests.
01:06:43But in all this time was not I a Jerusalem.
01:06:46For in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes, king of Babylon, came I unto the king, and after
01:06:53certain days obtained I leave of the king.
01:06:55And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing
01:07:01him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
01:07:04And it grieved me sore.
01:07:06Therefore, I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.
01:07:12Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers.
01:07:16And then there brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering
01:07:20and the frankincense.
01:07:22And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them.
01:07:27For the Levites and the singers that did the work were fled every one to his field.
01:07:32Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken?
01:07:37And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
01:07:40Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn, and the new wine, and the oil, unto the treasuries.
01:07:47And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shalamiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and
01:07:54of the Levites, Padaiah.
01:07:56And next to them was Hanan the son of Zachar, the son of Antaniah.
01:08:00For they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
01:08:06Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done
01:08:12for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
01:08:16In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in
01:08:24sheaves, and lading asses, as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which
01:08:31they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.
01:08:34And I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.
01:08:38There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish in all manner of wear, and sold
01:08:44on the Sabbath unto the children of Judah and in Jerusalem.
01:08:49Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this
01:08:54that ye do, and profane the Sabbath day?
01:08:57Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this
01:09:03city?
01:09:04Yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath.
01:09:09And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath,
01:09:15I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till
01:09:20after the Sabbath.
01:09:22And some of my servants set high at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on
01:09:28the Sabbath day.
01:09:29So the merchants and sellers of all kind of wear lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.
01:09:35Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall?
01:09:40If ye do so again, I will lay hands on you.
01:09:43From that time forth came they no more on the Sabbath.
01:09:47And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come
01:09:52and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day.
01:09:56Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy
01:10:03mercy.
01:10:05In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab.
01:10:11And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews'
01:10:17language, but according to the language of each people.
01:10:20And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their
01:10:26hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons,
01:10:32nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
01:10:36Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things?
01:10:40Yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made
01:10:46him king over all Israel.
01:10:48Nevertheless, even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
01:10:53Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in
01:10:59marrying strange wives?
01:11:01And one of the sons of Joyadah, the son of Eliashib, the high priest, was son-in-law to
01:11:07Sambalat, the Horonite.
01:11:09Therefore I chased him from me.
01:11:12Remember them, O my God, because they had defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood,
01:11:18and of the Levites.
01:11:21Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the
01:11:26Levites, everyone in his business, and for the wood offering, at times appointed, and
01:11:32for the firstfruits.
01:11:34Remember me, O my God, for good.
