00:00The coronavirus affects each of us.
00:02We're changing our way of life to protect our own health and that of others.
00:08We may miss many things that are dear to us.
00:11But we don't miss the air pollution from cars or the noise of traffic.
00:16When we throw open our windows, we can breathe fresher air.
00:21We see nature restoring itself.
00:24But we shouldn't fool ourselves.
00:26We may be getting a better grip on the coronavirus, but we are not getting a grip yet on climate
00:33change.
00:34The warming of our planet continues.
00:37And it will warm even more if we continue to burn fossil fuels.
00:42As we now plan to slowly go back to work and to invest billions of euros to restart our economy,
00:50we should avoid falling back in old, polluting habits.
00:54Instead, we should bounce back better from this pandemic.
00:59We can make our society and our planet healthier by investing in renewable energy,
01:05by driving clean cars, by renovating our houses and making them energy efficient,
01:11by buying sustainable food, reusing materials rather than throwing them away,
01:18or producing low-carbon steel.
01:20This is the essence of the European Green Deal.
01:25The European Green Deal is an agenda for transforming our economy to make it more competitive
01:32and improve our quality of life.
01:35We will now also make it our motor for the recovery.
01:39By using the European Green Deal as our compass,
01:43we can turn the crisis of this pandemic into an opportunity to rebuild our economies differently
01:50and make them more resilient,
01:52so that we also leave a better place for our children.
01:57With a green recovery, we will come out of the crisis stronger and healthier.
02:03Thank you.
