00:01The National Tobacco Control Conference held in Cyberjaya from May 8th to 10th served as a key platform to raise
00:08awareness on various aspects of lung disease, including detection, improving lung health, and tackling nicotine addiction as vaping continues to
00:18rise.
00:18The organiser said this year's conference will feature several tobacco and lung-related clinical tracks. These tracks aim to train
00:28more than 100 healthcare workers nationwide on helping patients quit smoking and vaping while improving methods for the detection and
00:36treatment of lung disease.
00:38The model for this conference has always been we subsidise and provide free scholarships to hundreds of Ministry of Health
00:46officers, people working in NGOs and all that for them to come for the conference for free.
00:51From the two tracks, the clinical tracks, the tobacco clinical track and the lung clinical track, it is to train
00:58our nurses, our doctors, our radiographers how to perform better, how to upgrade their own skills.
01:04So that's really the outcome we are giving. And by making sure we are training those people, not focusing on
01:11the people in Klang Valley, but all over the country, we are making sure that we are able to make
01:15sure our services really go down.
01:18We are passing that, transferring that skills to our people to be able to serve Malaysians all over the country.
01:24They said the accessibility of lung cancer screenings is concerning and many Malaysians are unable to afford screening costs that
01:33can reach up to RM10,000 a year.
01:36So one of the things that we have tried to do is introduce this lung shield program. It's a unique
01:41program. It's very unique to Malaysia. In fact, the micro insurance component is probably the first of its kind in
01:46the entire world, where we are screening and diagnosing lung cancer using a micro insurance component, which only costs about
01:54RM179 per year.
01:57When you get on to the micro insurance together with the screening, you actually get an AI X-ray. So
02:06this is also an innovation. We brought in AI to look at X-rays and they can pick up certain
02:12abnormalities.
02:13So you're not only screening for lung cancer, you're screening for TB, you're screening for occupational lung disease, everything in
02:19this one X-ray that the AI can then interpret.
02:22But the good thing is when something goes wrong, the micro insurance kicks in, it allows you to get diagnostic
02:28procedures for biopsy, for CT scans and everything. It will pay right up to your diagnosis.
02:34So and then you can, if everything's okay, good. But if everything's not okay, then you can go on to
02:39treatment.
02:39But we would have detected it earlier and without any cost to the patient.
02:45They added that patients can be immediately referred to specialists at both private and government hospitals nationwide to speed up
02:53their checkups and diagnosis process.
02:55Through the program, the full diagnostic process can be completed within three to four days, compared to the usual weeks
03:03or even months.
03:09Now, the medical Co-op, the patient, has determined that we have a variety of diseases and everything, and the人
03:14in the physical department, has been once in date, with the patient.
03:14So, you say, if anything is not okay, then you can say, if anything is very specific, is that the
03:15patient would need to be tested.
03:15So all the patients didn't take the patient, but we've detected which they actually went through.
03:15So that's a later, you can be able to track the patient, and we can have that person in the
03:15body of those Cecilio's, somebody who's got the patient.
03:15So as long as a patient, we can have that person with that person, you can have that person on
03:15a patient.
