Ten individuals, including a senior Immigration Department officer, were arrested in an operation dubbed Ops Toyu at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Kedah on Saturday (April 26).

00:01Ten individuals, including a senior immigration department officer, have been arrested in
00:07Ops Toyu at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex in
00:13Kedar on Saturday.
00:15Immigration Director General Datuk Zakaria Shahban said a local man and a Thai national,
00:21believed to be agents known as Toyu, were among those arrested in the 12.50pm operation.
00:27A local transporter, five Indian nationals, one Pakistani national and a senior immigration
00:34officer suspected of acting as a facilitator were also detained.
00:40Initial checks found one Indian national was blacklisted, while the Pakistani national used
00:46a suspected fake e-visa.
00:49The rest were found to be illegal immigrants.
00:51Authorities also seized passports, border passes, immigration stamps, mobile phones, cash,
01:00as well as a car and two motorcycles.
01:02Zakaria said the syndicate brought in foreign nationals, mainly from India, via land routes
01:08using transporters posing as taxi drivers, with officers allegedly approving entries despite
01:15violations.
01:17Each migrant reportedly paid about 1,000 ringgit, with 400 ringgit channeled to the officer
01:24per passport.
01:26The syndicate is believed to have been active since early this year, causing losses of about
01:314.1 million ringgit.
01:33All detainees are being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling
01:38of Migrants Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959-63.
