00:0020,450 jobs are available across 25 government ministries.
00:06And over the past five days since government launched its national recruitment drive,
00:12there have been over 110,000 applications.
00:16Applications can be done online or in person at a number of locations across the country.
00:22And on Thursday, Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa visited the main site
00:26at the National Cycling Velodrome in Coover.
00:29The Prime Minister says all 20,000-plus vacancies will be filled over time,
00:35but in phases. Applications close Friday at midnight
00:39and interviews begin as early as next week, Monday,
00:42with the Coover recruitment site transitioning into an interview site.
00:47Can you say all 20,000 will be filled?
00:49Yes, but I said not on the same day.
00:52It will be on a phased basis and we'll continue to fill those vacancies as we go ahead.
00:57That is the whole purpose of this.
00:59Of course, we may not have the 90,000 jobs, but that's what my job is.
01:04My job is to create jobs in our country.
01:07We promise you jobs and we will deliver on that promise.
01:10All of it not happen the same day.
01:12The next step, she says, will be to involve the private sector.
01:16Now, I said this is phase one.
01:19This is the public sector jobs, but we are also targeting the private sector jobs.
01:24We partner with the private sector and do a rollout to see,
01:27let's bring more people into the job market.
01:30The Prime Minister says many people were upset when she closed the URP and CPEP programs.
01:36She says she even faced opposition from some of her own ministers,
01:41but she moved forward with the promise of giving citizens more than they've settled for.
01:47There'll be real people, real jobs.
01:49These jobs are sustainable jobs.
01:51You could not go with a CPEP job to the bank and get a proper mortgage to buy a house
01:56or get a proper mortgage to buy a car
01:59or get a proper mortgage to send your child to university somewhere.
02:02You couldn't do it with CPEP and URP.
02:04That was just hand-to-mouth feeding.
02:06That's a kind of slavery.
02:08That's how I saw it, and I was very determined.
02:10I will not put people through that kind of slavery.
02:14And some members of my cabinet thought me,
02:16but we did this, and this will work.
02:19This will work.
